Bold

Today's the day: I'm going to compile all of my best poems into an anthology. Some might be from like 2 years ago, some might be from this morning. I'm just picking the ones that I like. My goal is to create multiple copies and start selling self-published poetry anthologies for some extra money, but I'm not sure if that's going to happen yet. I'm thinking of repurposing composition notebooks, because the aesthetic I'm trying to go for is kind of like.. Classic 90s teen movie,  angsty poetry scrawled out on scraps of paper and back-sides of worksheets. Not to say that's what my poetry is, but that's the kind of look I want the anthologies to have. So might just literally paste them into composition books. It kind of also makes them unique, and it's cheaper so the profits would be higher. But I don't really want to talk business.

It's kind of nerve-wracking, doing this. Because, if I do, I'll be officially putting myself out there to have my work read and criticized. And,a s exciting as that is, it's also fucking terrifying. But I really feel like this is something I need to do.

What's that phrase? go boldly in the direction of your dreams? I think I've seen it on posters in middle school classrooms or something. But, I guess that's what I'm trying to do.

Fake Plants & Book Collections

Last night I went out after school just to see what was at the thrift store and if there were any good bargains at target and managed to get a few things for my room. I found two little fake succulents, a "feel beautiful" candle which smells absolutely gorgeous (the scent is moonflower & neroli, with essential oils of orange and lavender), and some little LED tea lights. The lamp pictured here was something I already owned (I believe it came from a garage sale) and it has pretty elephants on it, and then the other candle is a cute little "thank you" candle my boyfriend's mom gave me at Christmas. Here are some photos (I apologize for the intensely shitty picture quality, I really need a new phone with a better camera)

Then here are the  books I picked up at the thrift store:

And here's another photo of the succulents:

These little cuties were 3 dollars each! I wish they were real plants, but fake ones will do for now. When I have my own house, I really want to get a lot of cute plants.

I set everything up on a table in front of the window in my room, and I call it my "aesthetic table." I also bought a package of three brown moleskines with lined pages and they're sitting on the table as well. I really have a problem with buying journals - perhaps one of these days I'll make a post showing off my collection.

Oh, Canada

As you might know, I live in Canada. As much as I would love to travel, I don't think I'd really love to permanently live somewhere else. I'd definitely stay somewhere else for a few weeks or months, maybe even a year, but I don't think I would permanently stay in another country unless I really fell in love with the place.

Jack of All Trades, Master of None

Right now, my answer when people ask me what I want to do after high school is "be a jack of all trades." For some reason, this just doesn't cut it. Because I guess 'following your dreams' stops being relevant when you become a teenager, along with 'doing anything you put your mind to' and 'believing in yourself.'

Your Teenage Bedroom

As a teenager, you can basically do whatever you want with your room, whenever you want to.
You can change how it looks whenever you feel like it. It doesn't matter if you change it every day, every couple of weeks, a couple times a year, or never! Because its yours. Your teenage bedroom belongs to you and nobody else (unless you share a room, I suppose), and it's probably one of the first things you can really call your own. It can be whatever you want it to be, whatever you decide it is. You don't even have to call it your room if you don't want to! You could call it your castle if you felt like it, and so that's what it would be. Because you said so.
A lot of people underestimate the power of the teenage bedroom, or don't cherish their own enough, or take it for granted. But it should be praised and cherished and cared for. It's a reflection of a person's 'self,' and deserves the same love and affection that a person does. Dress it up, feed it with your prized possessions, do whatever you want to make it as you as it can possibly be.
Go forth, children, and cherish your teenage bedroom.

How To Be Less Obnoxious: A Note to the Girl in the Library

Hello, girl in the library who I don't know. Even though I have no sweet clue who you are, I can hear you yelling about "charizard and squirtle! charizard and squirtle!" from the other end of the room. And this is a big library.

Keyword here? Library. You're supposed to be quiet in the library. I know, I know, we call it the "learning center" now, but still. Some people still use it to work and to read and to study, not to play card games. You can still play all the games you want in here, but you can't expect to be respected if you don't respect anyone else.

Please, please be a little bit quieter. You really don't need to yell about the things that you're relling about, and you don't need to run around. Other people are trying to accomplish things, and it's very difficult when you (and your friends, for that matter) are hollering about pokemon and dragons and spells.

So for everyone else out there who decides to loud in libraries too, please don't. We respect you by not bothering you, so you should respect us too and try not to bother us.

Sincerely,
The Girl at the Other End of the Library with the Lacey Cardigan.

The Death of the High School Library

At my high school, we no longer have a library. The room is still there, but most of the books are gone, replaced with extra workspace and computers. It's no longer called a library, it's the "learning center." Funny thing is though, nobody really uses it as a learning center. They either use it as a library (HA) or they're in there socializing and playing games on the computers, because since it isn't a "library" anymore they don't have to be quiet.
