Creativity is Found, not Forced.

If you have artist's block, or writer's block, or whoever's block, do not worry. It will come back to you. The trick is that you don't force yourself to be creativity, that just doesn't really work. Just by doing the things that you love will inspire you, and eventually you'll have so much creative muse you won't know what to do with all of it!

Vibes #1

There are a lot, and I mean A LOT, of things that inspire me. I see something and sort of interpret it however it is that I want to interpret it, and sort of create an image in my head of what sort of room it would be in or what sort of person would wear it and who that person would be friends with and talk to. It becomes my own, in a way. I just have to like it. So this is going to be a little series where I showcase images that I've collected that show things that inspire me in some way or another. It's more for my own personal reference, but maybe you can find some enjoyment in it as well!

Looking for Submissions!

Intrepid Magazine is currently looking for user-generated submissions. This can be anything from art to photographs to writing, or basically anything you want to share.

Oh, Canada

As you might know, I live in Canada. As much as I would love to travel, I don't think I'd really love to permanently live somewhere else. I'd definitely stay somewhere else for a few weeks or months, maybe even a year, but I don't think I would permanently stay in another country unless I really fell in love with the place.

Songs for Winter: Part II

Here's a continuation of my last little playlist, Songs for Winter, so that you can enjoy even more music with that wintery, nostalgic sound we all know and love.

I Don't Belong to Anyone: The Importance of Marina Diamandis

Marina Diamandis (or Marina and the Diamonds), is one of my personal heroes. Yeah, yeah, go ahead, act all shocked and surprised. The thing is though, she is beautiful (AND CURVY!), self-expressive, and let's just take a look at what her music does real quick here.

Jack of All Trades, Master of None

Right now, my answer when people ask me what I want to do after high school is "be a jack of all trades." For some reason, this just doesn't cut it. Because I guess 'following your dreams' stops being relevant when you become a teenager, along with 'doing anything you put your mind to' and 'believing in yourself.'

Your Teenage Bedroom

As a teenager, you can basically do whatever you want with your room, whenever you want to.
You can change how it looks whenever you feel like it. It doesn't matter if you change it every day, every couple of weeks, a couple times a year, or never! Because its yours. Your teenage bedroom belongs to you and nobody else (unless you share a room, I suppose), and it's probably one of the first things you can really call your own. It can be whatever you want it to be, whatever you decide it is. You don't even have to call it your room if you don't want to! You could call it your castle if you felt like it, and so that's what it would be. Because you said so.
A lot of people underestimate the power of the teenage bedroom, or don't cherish their own enough, or take it for granted. But it should be praised and cherished and cared for. It's a reflection of a person's 'self,' and deserves the same love and affection that a person does. Dress it up, feed it with your prized possessions, do whatever you want to make it as you as it can possibly be.
Go forth, children, and cherish your teenage bedroom.

Songs for Winter

This is a list of songs that sort of evoke that feeling of a sort of wintery nostalgia in me that I hope they evoke in you too - it's quite the feeling!

American History X: An Essay

[NOTE: This essay contains a few spoilers here and there, just so you know!]

American History X, a film starring Edward Norton and Edward Furlong, is more than just a movie about racism and white supremacy. This film is powerful and realistic, and it's not just because it shows the brutality of hate crimes. What really drives home the theme of the film are the positive aspects of it. Three of these aspects are redemption, brotherly love, and loyality. They prove, with exceptional strength, to be American History X's true driving forces.

How To Be Less Obnoxious: A Note to the Girl in the Library

Hello, girl in the library who I don't know. Even though I have no sweet clue who you are, I can hear you yelling about "charizard and squirtle! charizard and squirtle!" from the other end of the room. And this is a big library.

Keyword here? Library. You're supposed to be quiet in the library. I know, I know, we call it the "learning center" now, but still. Some people still use it to work and to read and to study, not to play card games. You can still play all the games you want in here, but you can't expect to be respected if you don't respect anyone else.

Please, please be a little bit quieter. You really don't need to yell about the things that you're relling about, and you don't need to run around. Other people are trying to accomplish things, and it's very difficult when you (and your friends, for that matter) are hollering about pokemon and dragons and spells.

So for everyone else out there who decides to loud in libraries too, please don't. We respect you by not bothering you, so you should respect us too and try not to bother us.

Sincerely,
The Girl at the Other End of the Library with the Lacey Cardigan.

The Death of the High School Library

At my high school, we no longer have a library. The room is still there, but most of the books are gone, replaced with extra workspace and computers. It's no longer called a library, it's the "learning center." Funny thing is though, nobody really uses it as a learning center. They either use it as a library (HA) or they're in there socializing and playing games on the computers, because since it isn't a "library" anymore they don't have to be quiet.

Video Games

The truth is, I love video games. I have ever since my first gameboy that I played pokemon on all the time as a child. I'll probably never stop loving games, and for some reason, people find it strange.

My boyfriend is older than me and plays a lot of video games, nobody questions him. Nobody questions his brother, who is even older still, and nobody questions their friends. However, when I am seen frequently playing video games, I'm asked things like "but didn't you grow out of those things?" and "Do you really still play that?" Why is it that I'm expected to grow out of video games? I didn't even think that was possible!

The Virgin Suicides

Earlier this evening I watched Sophia Coppola's brilliant film The Virgin Suicides. I have yet to read the book, but I definitely want to now!

The New Mag in Town

I want this blog website thing to be a sort of.. Online zine type deal? I have big plans for this place and I'm super excited!

You can expect posts about sex & dating, movies & tv, music, fashion, life... Basically anything, really! But with a sort of alternative twist to it, I think. I want Intrepid to be more than just your typical teen girl magazine, so that's what it's gonna be!
